A remote Scottish lodge with stunning views was the perfect setting for this couple’s happy day. Our WED2B Real Weddings Scotland feature reveals more:

Laura and James had known each other since childhood but officially met on a night out in their local town nine years ago.

A stunning location…

The couple chose the Lodge on Loch Goil, a Victorian country house near Glasgow, for their real weddings Scotland. It sits on the shores of a loch and has a majestic backdrop of mountain scenery. “It’s a beautiful private house and we loved its remote location,” says Laura. “The house itself is so decadent and the surrounding grounds are perfectly presented. We visited in January 2017 and booked our wedding for May. I loved the conservatory, as it meant I wouldn't have to stress about the weather. It was a good decision as it turned out to be a very wet day! We were lovely and warm inside and could still enjoy the stunning views.”

A dress to impress

Laura wore 'Bria' from The Signature Collection with a cathedral-length veil. “I loved its simplicity but I was nervous about how comfortable it would be,” she says. “There was no need to worry though. It turned out to be the perfect party dress, even after traipsing through the wet forest for pictures. I didn’t want to take it off!

“I actually went to my nearest WED2B store on my own to buy it, as I was on holiday,” says Laura. “The staff there were very helpful. They kept the dress on hold while I went away and sent pictures to my friends!

The bridesmaids, Laura’s sister and best friend, wore bridesmaids dresses from the Infinite Collection. The Grecian style 'Haven' dress in vintage pink colour. Take a look at our new colour range of bridesmaids dresses here.

The big day arrives…

“I spent the wedding morning enjoying breakfast in bed while watching my bridesmaids and mum getting their hair and make-up done,” says Laura. “The staff at The Lodge really looked after us. I never felt stressed and I didn’t lift a finger all weekend!”

“My favourite moment was walking down the aisle to our favourite song,” says Laura. "My friend also gave a reading during the ceremony, which we loved." The venue has a beautiful treehouse by the water’s edge and the couple signed the legal papers there before going off-site for some pictures. “I'd always wanted pictures in bluebells,” says Laura, “and our lovely photographer Michael (Fotogenic of Scotland) found the perfect wooded area. It was just what I'd envisioned.”

“We didn't have a theme, as the location and setting really speaks for itself,” says Laura. “The tables at the reception were dressed with greenery and white roses, and we got married under a greenery arch. My talented maid of honour wrote the place names in gold pen and I absolutely loved them. The food was incredible, very fresh and sourced locally." The bride made the two-tier, buttercream cake herself while favours were homemade chocolates and little bottles of Scottish gin.

Laura’s top tip…

“The only thing I would change would be to go on honeymoon straight away,” she says. “We are going away in July but it would have been nice to stay in the ‘just married’ bubble for a little longer after the wedding!”
