Plenty of fresh flowers and a beautiful Somerset wedding venue set the scene for this big day. Our WED2B Real Weddings feature reveals more…

Nick and Katie first met at work, “Our first date was probably while we were on lunch at the office!” laughs Katie. Nick later proposed when the couple were in Marrakech on holiday. “It was our last night and he had organised a private dinner on the rooftop terrace of our hotel, complete with musician and candles,” says Katie. “After dinner, we sat and had a drink while admiring the view, and that’s when he did it. It was gorgeous!”

Finding the perfect dress

Katie bought her dress from WED2B’s Bristol store. “I was there just for fun, to try some on,” she says. “I didn’t even want to try on Phillipa, the dress I ended up buying, but my mum insisted. Although, once I got it on I didn’t want to take it off! All the girls in the store were so complimentary and it was a moment I’ll remember forever. We weren’t intending on buying anything but we left the store and I couldn’t stop thinking about someone else buying it. So we went back!”

An idyllic Somerset wedding

The August wedding was held at Quantock Lakes, a Somerset wedding venue. “It’s a gorgeous location surrounded by land, nature and set on a lake,” says Katie. “The views were stunning and I wanted a venue that felt like you were outside, even when you were inside. This one fitted the bill perfectly.”

The big day

The theme for the day was white and hunter green and fresh flowers were covering every inch of the venue, in a mix of tall and short vases. “My mum made the three-tier wedding cake, which was also covered in a waterfall of fresh flowers,” says Katie. “The most memorable moment of the day had to be the time I shared with my dad before the wedding. I gave him a present that was really special to us both, something only we would understand. Afterwards, we couldn’t let go of each other from pure emotion, it was so lovely.”

Sunshine and flowers

“My dad walked me down a rose-petal-filled aisle, under a gorgeous floral archway, to the man of my dreams,” says Katie. “We also had a live singer named Flossie Buckle who sang ‘The Power of Love’ and sent chills down my spine. It was a classic wedding day, as far as the order of the day went. We had gorgeous fresh flowers everywhere, the sun was shining, all the doors were open and a bouncy castle and ice-cream van arrived for the kids. Everyone had a lovely chilled day in the sun drinking Pimms!”

My top tips…

“Make sure you get an early night the night before the wedding,” says Katie. “Also, if you want to invite someone or do something in particular, and someone’s telling you not to, just do it anyway! The only things you’ll regret are the things you didn’t do. Finally, try to find 15 minutes with your new husband. Go for a walk around the venue or sit somewhere quiet. Otherwise, you’ll be so busy entertaining guests the day will fly by. Then later you’ll realise that the only time you’ve actually spent together was taking photos!”
