Tis’ definitely the season to experiment with a slightly more wintery look. Why not try a little silver shimmer eyeshadow combined with dark, berry red lips?

Do… look for a venue that’s cosy and bright

It will get dark early so make sure you choose a venue that sparkles at night. Lots of couples view venues in the daytime but take a trip to your favourites in the evening too, so you can make sure they’re cosy, inviting and well lit.

Don’t… worry about the weather

It will most likely be cold, so just make sure you factor this into your plans. For example, does your venue have areas inside for photographs? Consider holding both the ceremony and reception in the same place too, so guests won’t need to travel again once they’ve arrived.

Do… set the tone with your stationery

Why not send out Christmas cards as wedding invitations to get guests feeling festive?

Do… deck the halls!

Christmas is a great time to get married, as many venues will already have a tree and fairy lights up. Check what decorations there will be and find out the colour and style. Then you can plan your colour scheme and any extra decor to work with them.

Don't… be afraid to serve festive food

Everyone loves a warming mulled wine and a mince pie, so why not serve these after the ceremony instead of canapés and bubbly? Instead of a sweetie cart you could also treat guests to tubs of candy canes or Christmas chocolates, such as Quality Street or Roses. Festive food fans could even serve up a Christmas dinner wedding breakfast with all the trimmings!

Don’t… choose tropical flowers

They’ll be much more expensive than seasonal ones. Try lovely winter blooms such as cyclamen, irises, winter jasmine, carnations, freesias, lilies, roses and stephanotis instead.

Do… go to town with the Christmas wedding decor

Think holly, berries, pinecones, baubles, fairy lights, wreaths and, of course, plenty of glitter! You could hang stockings over the fireplace, if your venue has one, and dot a few cinnamon-scented candles here and there. Don’t forget to hang up some bunches of mistletoe too for some great photo opportunities and maybe even a little romance!

Don’t… forget the favours

Personalised baubles make great gifts that guests will hang on their trees for years to come. Alternatively, you could have personalised Christmas crackers, hot chocolate kits complete with marshmallows, gingerbread biscuits or even gold-dusted macarons, for a touch of wintery elegance.

Do… add a few fun extras

Get the party started by suggesting a Christmas dress code on your invites, complete with glitter, sparkle and more. Make sure your DJ has plenty of Christmas classics on his playlist too and, if you’re having photo booth, add in some fun festive props, such as Santa hats and beards, angel wings and more.
